A distanza di 38 anni dall'uscita del brano dei Maxophone "Al mancato compleanno di una farfalla", la 'farfalla' torna nel brano prog di 20 minuti dell'album "HUMANA PROG - Fiori Frutti Farfalle" scritto, musicato, arrangiato e cantato da Paolo Farina che del testo di quella canzone del '76, ne era stato l'autore. Questo nuovo progetto di Farina prende l'avvio dalla riscoperta di un'audiocassetta registrata nel '73 con alcuni suoi amici musicisti contenente il provino di un brano di 16 minuti che è stato ripreso e sviluppato oggi.

Alle registrazioni del brano della durata di 20 minuti “Fiori Frutti Farfalle” hanno partecipato numerosi musicisti sia pugliesi che milanesi, tra cui la partecipazione straordinaria di Sergio Lattuada (tastierista e compositore dei vecchi e nuovi Maxophone). Da segnalare l'importante apporto alla realizzazione del brano dato da Lele Battista, co-arrangiatore e co-produttore oltre che polistrumentista.

La seconda parte del disco è formata da altri 6 brani (tutti scritti da Farina tra il '72 e il '73 e finora mai pubblicati) e registrati nell'estate del 2013 in Puglia. All'ultimo brano del cd "La ballata degli amici perduti" è stato aggiunto un quartetto d'archi.

Musicalmente si tratta di un bellissimo disco di prog finemente cesellato, sognante, raffinato e che si riallaccia alla tradizione italiana degli anni settanta con nomi come Celeste, Locanda delle Fate, Pierrot Lunaire o Claudio Rocchi. Illustrazione di copertina di Matteo Guarnaccia.

38 years since the release of Maxophone’s "Al mancato compleanno di una farfalla" ("At a missed birthday of a butterfly"), the 'butterfly' is back in a 20 minutes prog suite in "HUMANA PROG - Fiori Frutti Farfalle", an album completely written, arranged and sung by Paolo Farina, the poet and musician who wrote the lyrics of the old Maxophone classic. This new project started with the discovery of an old audiotape recorded in '73 with some of his fellow musicians and friends containing a 16-minute demo track piece that was taken up and developed today.

The recording of the 20 minutes suite, "Fiori Frutti Farfalle", was attended by many musicians from Milan and Apulia, including a special appearance by Sergio Lattuada (keyboard player and composer of the new and old Maxophone). To underline the important contribution to the song given by Lele Battista, co-arranger, co-producer and multi-instrumentalist.

The second part of the disc features additional 6 tracks (all written by Farina between '72 and 73 and still unreleased so far) that were recorded in the summer of 2013 in Apulia. The last track of the CD "La ballata degli amici perduti" also features a string quartet.

Musically it is a wonderful and pastoral prog album, dreamy, elegant, and directly linked to the Italian tradition of the seventies, reminding names like Celeste, Locanda delle Fate, Pierrot Lunaire or Claudio Rocchi. Cover artwork by Matteo Guarnaccia.

This release makes me think of early delving from folk groups into jazz territory, with some Canterbury thrown in, The quartet really captures an era without falling into sentimentality, sounding like a lost soundtrack some mod 60s film at times. Airy, spiraling, effected vocals blend with what sound like vintage keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and flute for a lysergic trip back in time. Nickie Harte Kelly

Sounds like a record you quickly assume you might have missed then, back in the day. Oh no, this is contemporary. Ridiculous fun.
